Electronic Billing Algorithm Increases ED Facility Charges by 42%
According to recent research, use of an automated coding algorithm to evaluate documentation and support ED facility visit charge capture, is linked to higher coding levels and improved assessment of charges tied to intensity of services provided. In this study, implementation of LYNX E/Code solution at one hospital was associated with an immediate 42% increase in ED facility charges, representing an increase of $563 per patient visit.

ED Visits Climb 36 Percent Over Decade
A new report from the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics concludes that there were 119 million emergency room visits in 2006, up 36 percent over the last 10 years. During the same period, the number of available emergency departments dropped from 4,019 to 3,833. The growing volume of ED patients may be due, in part, to a growth in ED visits from the insured and a lack of prompt care at doctors' offices.
